Summary
“Rough day?” Neil asks, the upturn of his tone making it into a question. He’s being handled with kid gloves and the itching feeling under his skin ignites into fury. When Neil goes to reach for the half-finished cigarette, Andrew jerks his hand away with a scowl.
“Guess that answers that,” Neil says, too at ease in the face of his childishness. “What’s wrong?”
Andrew makes a noise, something derisive and mean. He’s been on edge for days now, the loop of Neil’s voice playing between his ears- how casual and sincere he’d sounded despite the lie on his lips.
I love you.

Summary
“He’s hot, right?”, Nicky tried again, arm reaching out to the screen. “Look at that jawline. Look at the abs! What else do you need to see?! He’s so hot, Neil.”
Neil just shrugged. “If you say so.”
“What does it even mean! You have eyes, Neil, use them!”
“Chill out, Nicky, I think that’s just not his type.” Allison sneaked a glance at Andrew and smirked. “He’s too tall.”
Andrew didn’t dignify that with a reaction.
Nicky deflated against the back of the couch. “Neil, I swear, you’re terrible at being gay.”
Ah, that was the wrong thing to say. Andrew’s eyes snapped over Neil’s back just in time to catch the sudden tension in his shoulders. “I told you, I’m not gay.”Neil doesn't swing. Andrew wants to understand.

Summary
“I’m not stupid,” Neil says. Remnants of a feeling akin to seasickness, of being too known in such a confronting, polarised way is eating away at his stomach. Flickering embers are burning his lungs like thousands of fireflies, and other words he doesn’t know how to write or spell or read.
“You’ll always be stupid,” Andrew tells him easily, not bothering to look at Neil once. “You are not stupid for not knowing this.”
Or Neil never learned to read or write but it’s okay; Andrew will teach him.
