Summary
Kakashi was tired.
A couple times he still second guessed himself. Wondered if it would be better to fail the team and let whatever happens to them happen.
But every time he saw the photo of his old team, he remembered why he couldn’t.
He couldn’t let that happen to them. This system had already screwed them over. The people who were supposed to care for them had done the opposite.
Kakashi wasn’t going to be another adult who let these kids down.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. And maybe I’ll only make things worse…” Kakashi murmured softly to the framed photo at his bedside. “…But I have to try.”
He had too. Or these pups were as good as dead.
OR: Kakashi realizes how bullshit it is that Team Seven was even a team in the first place, and does things differently. Screw Hiruzen for putting him in this position.

Summary
Naruto perks up. “A sleepover? Really? Really? I’ve never had a sleepover before!” He suddenly hesitates. “Wait! But what about Kakashi-sensei?”
What about him? Kakashi frowns in confusion.
“Kakashi-sensei?” Sakura echoes, a similarly perplexed frown spread across her features.
“We didn’t check in on him! What if he got kidnapped? What if he passed out on his way home? We have to make sure he’s okay!” Naruto declares.
Sasuke rolls his eyes. “I’m sure he’s fine.”
“Naruto does have a point though,” Sakura admits reluctantly. “Sensei does pass out an awful lot. Maybe we could just peek in on his apartment?”
Wow. Get a load out of this lot. Kakashi isn’t sure whether he should be more endeared or insulted.

Summary
Kakashi Hatake has survived wars, betrayals, and almost everyone he's ever loved. He's done his duty. He deserves a break, he decides. And then he decides, quite rightly, that he wants to retire. Or maybe take a long vacation.
His plan is simple: disappear, let the world move on without him for a while. Rest.
The problem is Team Seven.
Naruto clings on. Sasuke watches. Sakura understands too much.
Between impromptu training sessions, awkward silences, and moments that dangerously resemble a family, Kakashi learns that being a sensei was never just about teaching how to fight.
Raising Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura turns out to be the longest and most difficult mission of his life. And also the only one he doesn't want to (or can't) escape.

Summary
Kakashi Hatake had always maintained a careful distance from the son of his late mentor. The delicate balance of space and hidden supervision has not been easy, but he has managed for eight years, trusting that this detachment was for the better.
It’s when he returns from a long mission, and is hesitantly informed that Naruto Uzumaki has been removed from the orphanage and now living alone, that Kakashi reevaluates.
Kakashi is not father material. Years on the battlefield has left his sanity questionable at best, he is hardly qualified to take care of himself, nor is he worthy to cradle the lasting remnants of Minato and Kushina in his bloodied hands. He is considerably the worst option.
But he may be the only one, and Kakashi wagers a subpar father who tries is better than nothing at all.
