Nick heaved a sigh and looked up, locking eyes with Charlie. “Sorry, Char,” he said quietly. “I shouldn’t have pushed her buttons like that.”
Charlie smiled ruefully at his husband. “It’s okay, Nick. She pushed first.”
“Still, I know better–”
He was cut off by Charlie heaving himself out of the chair and dropping into Nick’s lap, wrapping his arms around his husband’s neck. “It’s been a very long, involved, opinionated discussion,” he said, before pressing a kiss to Nick’s cheek. “We’re all tired and need a break.”
“No luck yet then?” James asked as he sat in the chair Charlie had just vacated.
Charlie shook his head at his ex before looking up at the ceiling as if he was asking the universe for more patience. “Nope.”
