Summary
The way he'd always heard falling in love described sounded a lot like going mad. Losing the ability to think, becoming singularly focused, craving something ceaselessly. He'd always scoffed at the very notion.
“Then he'd seen her, cold and aloof, flitting gracefully through the crowd, champagne flute held elegantly in her long, delicate fingers, and he'd thought that perhaps, for the first time in the many lives he'd lived, he understood the impulse.

Summary
The man smiled at him, and it was so dazzling that Edward was pretty sure he could get a suntan from the light in his eyes. “I’m Thomas. Thomas Jopson.” Something about the way he said his name struck Edward as charmingly anachronistic. Though maybe that was just the name itself. Thomas Jopson.
It suited the man though, with his dark hair and his arrestingly blue eyes and his lithe muscles that he could surely use to take Edward so totally apart.
“I’m Edward,” he finally managed, as though an embarrassingly long moment hadn’t passed. As long as he said something charming and smooth now, though, he could probably salvage it. “You’re really pretty. Handsome. Attractive.” Fuck.

Summary
“Close your eyes, Billy,” Cornelius called through the door the next morning, and Billy swore under his breath, listening intently for any sounds of sirens that may have followed his boyfriend from the scene of whatever crime had stuck his fancy that morning.
“They’re closed,” Billy promised, eyes wide open and locked on the door.
“No they’re not,” Cornelius scoffed. “I can come in there and blindfold you if need be.”
“Promise?” Billy had intended to make the snide comment under his breath, but based on Cornelius’ little snort, he’d been overheard. Someday he’d get Cornelius to relax enough to stop paying attention to every little thing all the time, but today he was just worried about talking them both out of jail.
“Close your eyes, Billy, and put out your hands.”
“No,” Billy shot back immediately. He had no problem giving Cornelius a handy when the time called for it, but this was not the way to approach it.
“Relax, I’m not going to have congress with it,” Cornelius scoffed, as though the very idea were ridiculous, though just last week he had done exactly that. “Honestly, you should probably see someone about all those dirty thoughts you have.”

Summary
She does not want to be a pessimist. She would certainly sleep more soundly if she were of a more sanguine disposition, but ever since the expedition was first proposed, that dread has settled in her gut, heavy and permanent. It visits her at night like an old friend come calling, though speaking always of calamity. Some disaster will befall this expedition, of this she is certain. She hopes only that the magnitude of the disaster is less than she fears.

Summary
Around him, the tent breathes, stuttering and slow. He matches it with his own shaking whine. Tries not to think about anything beyond the simple act of raising his hand and carving up the meat. Because that’s what this is now, isn’t it? An offering, like the bread and wine at church.
Henry’s body is sacrosanct. Edward will make it so.

Summary
As he looks around, his first thought is that Henry is gone. To do what, Ned doesn’t know, but it isn’t exactly abnormal for the other man to take off with no warning. Sometimes to hunt, other times to check the tent or watch the horizon for the mutineers.
So Ned doesn’t worry about it, not immediately.
Not until he notices the lumpy shape behind the tent flap, the sun casting the shadow of it through and across the ground.
——Or: Dundy’s plan from this fic succeeds. Ned wakes up in the aftermath.
Can be read standalone!
