Summary
When Melissa King first travelled to Auckland, New Zealand, she had planned for a jam-packed week full of new experiences, people, and self-discovery. The world caved in from underneath her in the wake of her parent’s deaths when she was 12 and 18, thrusting her into a caregiver role to her twin sister. Mel immediately shut off any idea she may have had about her own individuality - she threw herself right into caregiving; that title consumed her entire identity - mind, body, and soul.
When she found out that her sister had a secret boyfriend, Mel found herself feeling shell shocked. As the gravity of her own self-induced isolation sunk in, she did the first thing she could think of to escape it - she booked a week-long trip half way across the world.
So yes, when Melissa King got on the first plane to get to Auckland, she expected to start finding out who she was, what she liked, and make new life experiences. What she wasn’t expecting was to find love. Which meant she certainly wasn’t expecting to meet her soulmate on the last leg of her flight there.
