He turns to you in his makeshift seat in the cockpit. "Together like only two of you?"
"Together like..." you try to find the words. "Sharing a space, talking to each other about what we're scared of, making jokes, solving problems, all of that."
Rocky doesn't say anything at first, until. "You and Grace already do those things. Statement."Or: As you are recalling moments from your life on earth, you are stuck saving the world with a rock who speaks to you through puppet shows and computers, and a school teacher (also bastardized scientist) who keeps looking at you as if you created all the stars in space.

Ryland’s whiteboard has cycled through a couple different phases. First, it held his scattered inventory of memories. Then, calculations charting the path to Rocky. And now, having saved Rocky, columns of figures devoted to rationing food for the journey to Erid.
Near the bottom corner, circled three separate times, are the words: WE WILL MAKE IT.
Well, you learn that there is a special kind of hell reserved for the first person to discover a problem, because now, even four words scrawled across a whiteboard can mock you. You see, here’s the problem you’ve found: Turns out there isn’t enough food on the Hail Mary for both of you to make it to Erid alive after all.

Still not feeling like I’ve properly caught my breath, I continue to examine the corridor I'm in. In the opposite direction there's a window, but it looks different. It’s almost circular, more like an octagon, with a frame that lines the outside, meeting at the center to form a small circle. Beyond the glass is an inky black sea, dotted with specks of light, some shown brighter than others, some were in small clusters while others were grouped together so tight it looked like a brushstroke of light was painted across a black canvas.
