On the second day of training, Kei and Tadashi were paired up to duel.
Kei still didn’t seem much for words, but Tadashi enjoyed their duel. Kei was graceful in his movements, the look of apathy never leaving his eyes. He wasn’t more skilled than the others Tadashi had dueled, but there was something about his technique that entranced Tadashi.
Once it was over (Kei won), they drank water together on the sidelines while the next pair went to practice.
“You’re really good at that,” Tadashi commented, grinning over at Kei. “Did you learn before coming here?”
Kei looked at him from the corner of his eyes. “My…brother taught me.”
“That’s awesome! Nee-san taught me,” Tadashi admitted. “But – oh! Don’t tell anyone who might tell Father… He doesn’t like that Nee-san can use a sword.”
For the first time ever, Kei’s lips quirked up into what was almost a smile. “That’s pretty badass of her.”

Summary
Tadashi broke the silence, "why are you doing this?"
The sudden inquiry startled Kei enough for him to start drawing his hand back, but Tadashi grabbed onto Kei's wrist to keep him from withdrawing any further. Tears pricked at the back of Tadashi's eyes, and he did his best to blink away the pain.
"It's warm here," Kei answered. The words 'with you' went unspoken.

Summary
“Just be polite to those girls if you ever see them. Can you do that for me?”
Kei’s breath seems to catch somewhere just out of reach, a small stuttering of inhales before he’s exhaling all at once and quietly agreeing. “Yeah, okay,” is all he says, but it’s enough.
“Good boy,” Tadashi says, his teasing tone overwhelmed by the relief evident in his voice. He’s too tired and too elated to put any effort into trying to regulate himself anymore. He’s out like a light soon after and misses the way the tense breathing pattern across the room ceases all together for nearly a whole minute before slowly, slowly resuming.

Tadashi hates being asked by girls to deliver their love notes to his best friend who he also happens to be in love with. He's too good mannered to turn them down, though, and too used to praising Kei when he's nice to the people around him to realize that every time he tells the blonde to be considerate of the girls whose affections he refuses, he's fueling his own worst nightmare. Too bad Kei suddenly seems very eager to follow every direction Tadashi gives him.
