Summary
Ace thinks he hears his name being called, but it's off somehow, distorted and sort of ringing. Like the person calling for him is both a long way away and, somehow, a long time ago. An echo of an echo of his name and if he wasn't absolutely positive that he'd left Nancy just around on the other side of that tree, the one with the branch that looks like a twisted finger pointing right at the spot where she's sleeping, he might mistake it for her voice. But that's impossible. And although impossible things are kind of their bread and butter, this one has all the hallmarks of his imagination being hopped up on too much chocolate and riding the high of Nancy's proximity.
Or: Ace asks Nancy to the Long Night Bonfire and a little (eventually happy) chaos ensues

“Maybe we should take a break?” Ace’s voice was low and throaty, liquid honey against her ear, as if he knew exactly what sort of fever-dreams her mind was conjuring and wanted nothing more than to make them a reality. Her eyes fell closed, breath shallow and pulse quickening.
His exhale tickled her skin as he leaned in further, kissing and sucking at the column of her throat, seeking and finding that particular spot that splintered her thoughts and sent them scattering. Nancy gasped, and the spark he’d kindled with his touch became a raging wildfire. In retaliation, she lowered her chin and grazed her lips across his fingers in a slow glide, delighting in the way his breath stuttered as she nipped ever-so-lightly at his fingertips.

Or Nancy and Ace try to figure out what is causing people to disappear on a nearby island, but it’s tough not to get distracted when your boyfriend is really pretty.

There’s a rustling sound on the other line. Nancy’s voice—a little dulled around the edges these days, but still pretty, if voices can indeed be pretty—follows, distracted.
“Oh. Ace. Ace from work. Hi. What’s up.” More rustling. “Does George need me to cover?”
“Actually,” Ace says before he realizes how it will sound, “I’ve got a proposition for you.”
“What?”
Shit, had he mixed up the phrases? “I’d like to proposition you?”
“Worse,” Nancy says curtly.
The three times they pretended.
