Summary
It was strange. The pull felt innate, how a bird instinctively knows polar North. Like it was something as simple as breathing for Clark.
He didn’t understand how people could live like this, being pulled away from their own body. The fierce need to move. Towards something achingly familiar.
Clark understands after the first two days that it’s not just a pull. He realizes it as he sits on the tin roof outside his bedroom window and looks at the stars. Looks in the direction of the pull, eyes searching the shadows for something he couldn’t quite name. But he knows he’s being drawn home.
To safety. To family.

Summary
The Kent Farm always has a distinct other worldly quality to it. Sunshine melts into his skin as he gets out of the Porsche, fresh air that carries with it the sweet scent of apples, dirt and hay. All of it welcomes Lex into a sort of liminal space, promises him something he had never quite had outside of small tastes of it on a ranch in Montana.
It was part of what kept bringing him back. The rest of the world, his problems, seemed to fall away when he walked this gravel drive to the barn. Sought Clark out inside this sacred place. The farm was slowly becoming his own refuge. Somewhere he could remove the shackles of solitude, trade them in for company and a warm smile.

Summary
Lex’s hands flex on the steering wheel, his leather clad thumb tapping a soft beat into the polished vinyl. It’s a soft thing, watching him be so at ease, so comfortable. All but mumbling along to the soft trill of the radio.
Not that Clark knows what song is playing, he’s too caught up by Lex’s hands. He watches the smooth leather drag at the wheel as he turns onto the town square, one hand gently guiding the wheel while the other all but caresses it. It’s enough to make Clark’s throat close up, ears burning hot, he tears his eyes away from Lex’s hands. It takes considerable effort. More than any farm work ever has.

Summary
Lex refuses to acknowledge the stinging in is eyes, to show that level of weakness. How affected he is by the realization that Clark doesn't know him. He wrestles with the hollow ache threatening to swallow him whole until it submits, forcing it into the ancient lead box in his mind and locking it tight.
He sends the stranger wearing Clark's face a lopsided smile. "I'm a friend."
Clark blinks once. "You can take me to the sign?"
Lex turns away again, not trusting his expression as he says, "What are friends for?"
