Summary
Wei Wuxian didn’t imagine acquiring a cat like this, nor did he imagine acquiring a fluffy white cat that, even covered in dirt and debris and clutched to a four-year-old’s chest like a teddy bear, manages to give the impression it’s judged his entire life and found it deeply wanting.
“Uh, A’Yuan,” he asks slowly, just in case this is a hallucination. “Who’s this?”
“A cat,” A’Yuan says proudly, leaning his round cheek against the top of the cat’s head, while the cat continues to look at Wei Wuxian like he’s wearing week-old clothes covered in food stains.
Or: Wei Wuxian gets a cat, and then a boyfriend, both of which are a surprise.

Summary
To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.
He comes close, though.
By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.
What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.
“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”
Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.

Wei Ying peers up at him through dark eyelashes. Huddled in his oversized hoodie, he looks rather like a lost puppy. A nasty bloodsucking puppy, Lan Zhan reminds himself.
“I need help,” Wei Ying says. “I need somebody to explain all this shit to me because all I’ve got to go on are a bunch of B-movies. So you, Van Helsing, are the best option I’ve got.”
Protecting the city from supernatural menaces is a burden, but field agent Lan Zhan has always borne that burden without complaint. Then one night, he meets Wei Ying, a vampire in need of rescue. A very pretty, very pathetic vampire. Lan Zhan will mentor this ridiculous vampire, but he is absolutely going to complain about it.

Wei Ying loves to watch himself when they share their dreams. Lan Wangji does not mind. He relishes any reason for Wei Ying’s excitement. He himself loves to watch his husband, to fuck his husband as they watch, and he cares very little for anything else.
He does not, as a rule, like to share him with others.
