Summary

The new bodyguard, Phainon, isn't exactly what he thought a bodyguard would look like. He looks more like an idol than a guard, with piercing blue eyes that seem strangely familiar. Mydei can’t place where he’s seen them before, but something about the stranger lingers in his thoughts.
As they spend more time together, Mydei begins to uncover layers to Phainon he never expected. And maybe, just maybe, the one guarding him has been by his side far longer than he knew.

"If they're well behaved," Mydei interrupts, propping his elbow up on the bar, mirroring his pose, chin propped on his hand, "Are you?"
Phainon is, he thinks, eyes tracing the arch of his brow, the curved bridge of his strong nose and plush, pink lips. He could be so well behaved.
After a messy breakup, Phainon seeks out a change of pace. He might not be one of Mydei's regulars, but he wouldn't mind being something a little more.

Mydei sniffed, his eyebrows furrowing, and his jaw went slack in realization. A subtly sweet, musky scent permeated the air, the Chimera hybrid looking up at him through lidded eyes, lips slightly parted, with his head tilted as though baring his neck to him.
The implication of the position suddenly became painfully apparent. Mydei flustered—careful not to make any sudden movements as he settled back onto his haunches. He still didn't fully trust that the chimera wouldn't lunge at him and attempt to tear out his throat if given the opportunity.
Or, that would have been the case—if he hadn't noticed the hybrid deliberately spreading his legs for him instead. Pale thighs splayed wide in silent invitation, with just the spade-shaped tip of his tail coyly hiding his sex from view, the moonlight filtering in through the foliage caught on the slick sticking to the hybrid's inner-thighs—
"This—" Mydei began, wheezing, "Your nest was—We... disturbed your nest."
Titans. Mydei shouldn't have answered the page.
Mydei's expertise starts and ends with the wildlife... So why is he cohabiting with a chimera hybrid on the brink of heat who keeps trying to seduce him?

He escapes his assailants but not before he’s given a dose of some heat-inducing drug. With his defenses down, his rationality unravelling, there’s only one person he trusts.
“Khaslana,” Nanook says, voice low, “I told you not to trust any alphas when you’re in heat.” He grabs short blonde locks, and Khaslana bites his lip on a half-moan, getting wetter. Nanook grits his teeth, snarling, tightening his grip. “You stupid boy. Did you not understand? That includes me.”
“I know what you meant,” Khaslana growls right back. “That doesn’t matter.” Blazing golden eyes lock on Nanook’s, breaths coming too fast. His hands are sweaty as they bring Nanook’s palm up to his face, holding it there. “Alpha or not, it’s you.”

The Flame Reaver growls the word into Mydei’s ear, suddenly so close that the edges of his teeth graze the delicate skin and cartilage. The word itself does nothing more than make fury flare bright and blazing inside Mydei’s chest as he instinctively bares his teeth and moves to lunge forward - even if he can’t reach the Flame Reaver with his gauntlets, he might be able to rip his throat out with his mouth.
“I said,” the Flame Reaver starts again, the remaining fragments of his mask falling off his face and exposing a cold, twisted version of what should be Mydei’s favorite sight, his safe harbor, home -
“Submit.”
The word itself does nothing more than stoke the anger burning through Mydei’s veins, but the onslaught of scent and the sudden pressure from their bond -
