Summary
Israel Hands is Blackbeard's first mate. He is also the Kraken's keeper and Edward's best friend. He knows his darkest secrets and has had his back through almost everything. It was them against the world until Edward met Stede Bonnet. After Stede breaks Ed's heart, he changes. The Kraken lurks just underneath the surface and Izzy doesn't know how much longer he'll last with Edward's deteriorating state. He takes it upon himself and the remains of Stede's meager crew to find Stede and reunite Edward with the only man he's truly loved. But the ocean is a vast place, and if he takes too long, there might not be an Edward to return to.

Edward wasn’t looking at anything that was happening. He had his hands clamped tight around his ears as his head bulged between his fingers. Veiny protrusions danced along his forehead, and his eyes swelled behind his eyelids. He stumbled backwards, slamming his back against the wall. Edward tilted his head up and screamed as inky tendrils exploded out of his eyes, spraying jellied remains across the room.

Summary
Izzy's foot gets infected and so when the Revenge gets to shore in the Republic of Pirates he goes to visit Jackie for help and Jackie worries about one of her oldest friend (and also tells Jim about how much other pirates like Izzy.)

Jackie realized, abruptly, that she hadn't actually been told the specifics of Izzy's injury, she just knew that he'd been hurt.
Now though, she could see that Izzy's whole left foot seemed to be in a bad state, discoloration in his skin creeping up even past his ankle. Alarm crept through her that instantly was outdone by the horror of seeing a missing pinkie toe.
"What the fuck is that," she hissed, dark protectiveness swelling up in her. The cut was too clean to be an accident.
