    When Shen Qingqiu fails his first mission, he loses the opportunity to unfreeze the OOC function. He has to go through the events of the story in-character as the original goods. He's sure that he's definitely getting human sticked until he stumbles onto a possible solution: if it's out-of-character to not be evil, what if the scum villain got some character development?

    Meanwhile, Luo Binghe is getting paranoid that his Shizun has started being nice to him. In a really mean way.

    absolute all timer... really engaging read, charming characterization, i really love the conceit, and it does a great job fleshing out the ever shifting blurring line between shen jiu and shen yuan, how difficult it is live a dead mans life.

    ALSO fantastic job in creating a shen jiu who is a wicked cruel man but also someone that you can really really empathize with. he just breaks my heart. the tragedy in this is so potent that it makes the svsss canon more impactful to me. the dream flashbacks are fantastic tool for this, jarring (in a good way) but well integrated, and op sets you up for grueling and horrible realizations so well without getting too weighed down in a grim recitation of every horrible thing. for lack of better word, it's a tasteful, well executed tragedy. (learning that qj peak has a head disciple already, seeing her be, in her manner, very kind to sj, and knowing full and well that she *must* be dead in order for the characters to be where they are? just gutting.)
    the ocs were well written, each pov felt unique and had a strong voice, and the mechanics of the system work rlly well in the story.

    also!! it was still funny!! obvi ill talk at length abt the tragedy (the qi-ge / shen jiu stuff is just brutal. oh my god. excellent but it wounds me. that sy line "you used to be my house". ohhhh my god bruh) but between the like cruelty and suffering and shen jiu's very warped perspective on the world and being happy there is comedy that lands rlly well.

    actually this is the fic that really made the qijiu stuff it home let me be serious. like its so real here its never been realer.

    as of this read (bc this is my second read of this lol!) it is at 15 chapters, and while it's left off at a very good resting point, and I wouldn't be too heartbroken if op never picked it back up (because im very glad to have even this much of it!!), i cannot stress enough how much i would love to see it completed. just a great read. a real credit to scum vill fics.

    hm well. iconic. great shane pov i like how it takes all of his beautiful neuroses and ages them. lovely character work good prose like great stuff i liked it. too stoned to be detailed but a very good read, funny and grounded, believable and compelling. moving. #myshane

    ok finished my first ever reread of this one ugh!!! ugh!!!! just too good. really like yuna and david in this one and the coming out scene is just fantastic like shane and hisdesires....

    Luo Binghe wakes from a nightmare to their room in tatters, and Shen Qingqiu's delicate daemon dangerously close to Xin Mo.

    Shen Qingqiu and Xiu Ya refuse to be afraid.

    its good.... this is definitely one of the daemon aus that really uses the separation between person and daemon to full effect. binghe's potent self hatred is so :,( and it adds another layer to the false life shen yuan is living!!! call your soul by another name!!!

    one of my favorite timkon pieces for sure. very sweet, measured approach to tims forced retirement. primarily timkon but still takes time to look at what tims sudden removal from the community means for him, and the people he left.
