    Summary

Yuna and Ilya might not be close yet, but she certainly isn’t going to abandon him in some random Ottawa hotel room when he’s sick. And Ilya's powerless against these Hollanders — their earnest kindness, and their insistence on caring about him as though he deserves it.

Or: Yuna + Ilya's mortifying ordeal of being known.

What if David and Yuna had both gone to the cottage to retrieve that phone charger? What if they crept in very quietly (because silent meditation retreat) and found their son fast asleep on the couch, snuggled up with his arch-rival, Ilya Rozanov?

    Summary

Ilya Rozanov was sent to kill the son of his family’s oldest enemy.

Shane Hollander was asleep, half-naked, and completely within reach.

One pull of the trigger, and the night was supposed to end.

    It didn’t.

    “It’s okay. I don’t need anything.”

“I am not going to eat in front of you while you have nothing, Hollander,” Ilya scoffs. He plucks a can of cold ginger ale from the top shelf as casually as he can manage and slides it over the island, interrupting Hollander’s fidgeting thumbs. “You must be hungry, yes? It’s been hours since you left hotel. I can make something. Easy.”

    “Make… what?” he asks warily.

Ilya rolls his eyes and tosses a look over his shoulder. “Do not worry. I will find something that works for your special hockey diet,” he teases. He reaches back into the fridge. “Tuna melt okay?”

“No,” Hollander says primly. “And it’s a disease. Not a diet.”

He pulls his hands out of the cold and turns, blinks. “What?”

    Summary

    (11. Home, 1,625 words)
    --

Shane doesn’t consider himself someone who cries easily. He gets worked up about things, sure, he’ll get frustrated or angry or sometimes his eyes will mist over with a lump gathering in his throat. But he doesn’t really cry. It’s a practiced habit, he doesn’t want things to get to him, he tries not to allow things to overwhelm him to the point of breaking. Isn't it much easier and more productive to jump into figuring out a plan? Or taking a deep breath and moving on? Or venting to someone who will listen and not judge him for becoming upset? These feel like much more attainable tasks, something that makes so much more sense to him.
