    Summary

This story began with two questions.
Why was Alicent Hightower never quite bold enough to refuse her marriage to Viserys and stand against her father?
And why was Daemon Targaryen never quite clever enough to expose Otto Hightower's schemes before it was too late?
But what if they had been?
    What if Alicent chose differently?
    What if Daemon acted sooner?
What if House Hightower and House Targaryen were bound together long before the Dance?
After all, when fire joins with the wind, it does not burn less fiercely.
    It spreads.

    Summary

Other people escape to faraway Greek islands because of boys. Enjolras makes his escape because of the 1979 election result.

(“It is also because of a boy though,” says Courfeyrac. “I mean, it’s actually mostly because of a boy.”

Combeferre elbows him pointedly. “You’re supposed to be bolstering,” he hisses, and then pastes on an obliging smile for Enjolras. “How could the British people do this to us?” he demands melodramatically, and takes advantage of Enjolras’s distracted rant about how it wasn’t the fault of the people; no one’s offering a good option; they’ve been completely let down by the major parties! to pry the empty ice-cream tub out of his cold, heartbroken hands.)

    Summary

It was hard. Too hard. Grantaire couldn't do it. He crashed and he burned, and then saw, in his peripheral, as Enjolras watched it. He enjoyed it, Grantaire knew. He saw it in his eyes.

Maybe it was because he was smug, because it flattered him to have that much of an effect on someone. Maybe it was because he knew, just like he'd said, how easy Grantaire was for him. How he didn’t even have to try. Didn't have to try to pull him in, didn't have to try to break his heart.

Maybe he loved seeing Grantaire desperate and messy and empty, for the same reason Grantaire was desperate and messy and empty. Because that meant it was real.

    Maybe that's wishful thinking.

    Summary

"Let me come with you. It's not smart to go around fighting monsters on your own."

    "Almost all hunters work alone."

    "Doesn't make it any smarter."

In which Enjolras is going to save the innocent masses from the things that go bump in the night, and Grantaire is definitely either a lot more or a lot less than he appears. Neither of them can quite decide which it is.

    Summary

“Enjolras?” Grantaire says. “Are you with me?”

“I’m with you,” Enjolras says, because he doesn’t know what the hell is going on, but he knows that.

Grantaire makes a strange sound, somewhere between a laugh and a choked sob.

“Of course you are,” he says. “God, Apollo. It’s so fucking good to hear your voice. I mean, it would be good to hear fucking anyone’s voice right now, but-” That, strange, choked laugh again. “Of course it’s you.”
