Summary
Hey ART, what’s this? I ask, pulling up a file from the archival storage.
ART snatches it out of my metaphorical hands and tucks it back into storage. Just a research project.
I squint at the wall. What kind of research?
---
In which Murderbot finds a presentation for a 'research project' that ART did not want it to ever find.

Summary
Let’s start with the good part.
I accidentally helped Three (who was also helped by Ratthi and Bharadwaj) invent trauma recovery modules for murderbots. ART unhelped at first, but then it helped. I keep saying help too much but I’m not fucking changing it again, it’s been two hours. Anyways.
The bad part is everything else that had to happen first. Sane people shouldn’t get anywhere near a SecUnit’s worst memories, which is what we did so you don’t have to. Though I guess if you need the modules, you do have to. That’s kind of the point.Well, don’t worry about all the atrocities. There’s no way yours can be worse than mine.

Summary
SecUnit is staring at him. Ratthi accidentally makes eye contact again, and its gaze doesn’t dart away like it normally does. It stays locked onto his. Deliberately maintaining the eye contact.
Ratthi flexes his hands. His skin is tacky with fluids and the webs of his fingers stick together. “You’re really worrying me, SecUnit. Talk to me. Tell me you’re okay.”
“I’m okay,” SecUnit says immediately.
(OR: After Murderbot is attacked by the company and has its governor module switched back on, it can’t speak freely to ask for help. It takes its friends a while to notice.)

Summary
The mission fails catastrophically. So does SecUnit. When it comes back online without any functional sensory inputs, it believes that it's still trapped on the surface of the cold, desolate planet, that its humans are all dead, and that nobody will ever find it. Luckily, it's wrong.

Summary
Seth side-eyed Iris, then snorted a laugh when she made a talking motion with her hand. “Uh huh.”
« Iris, I saw that. My point is, it is frankly insulting that you immediately assume I did something bad— »
“Peri broke protocol on its last cargo run,” Iris interrupted loudly.
--
Or, Seth finds out that the surprises never end when your kid is a giant homicidal starship.
