Summary
Eighth year was supposed to be a fresh start.
Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts with no war to fight, no prophecy to fulfil, and no idea what to do with himself now that the thing he was built for is over. He is fine. He keeps saying so. The problem is the room, specifically, the person he has been assigned to share it with.
Draco Malfoy is composed, precise, and quietly falling apart. The wizarding world has made up its mind about who he is, and the darkness he has carried since the war is beginning to confirm everything they think. He proposed an arrangement because he couldn't think of another reason Harry would agree to keep seeing him. He ended it weeks before the fight. He kept showing up anyway.
A portrait that has been silent for decades is starting to speak in fragments. What it knows, it is not ready to say. What it has seen before, it would rather not see again.
