The convict- Simon.
His name was Simon, and some part of Ava hated that she knew it now because the Convict was a criminal, a murderer - a Butcher, some said.
But Simon - Simon - was a person, who had parents and had a childhood, and had a voice that shook and quivered and broke as it yelled at her through a shitty microphone - "You sent me to die down here, and you don't even know my name?"
And Simon was clever, and Simon's amalgamated ship of spare metal had somehow moved off their plotted map, and yet he had found the coordinates for the lost SM-8 and had begged her to set him free for it's data.
Simon - the one responsible for the destruction of the Filament Station, the one who's life was in her hands - was an enigma of data versus emotion in her brain.
Simon wasn't talking.

The image flickered, there was almost no change to the image at all. Her eyes scanned it, until they landed on his biographical data.
His name was Simon, he was convicted of several counts of murder, manslaughter and terrorism.
He was born the 4thth of February, 2820. Age 15.

Eden needed soliders for war, and kids are far easier to indoctrinate. But how do you get your people to be okay with this? The awnser: lie.
If a few kids have to die to make ends meet? Well, It's just bigger than us.
(OR I wanted to write a fic where Simon is actually just a really fucking scared and traumatized child, because Mark you hurt me with that ending so name Simon will get hugs. Did not expect ppl to actually like this concept LMAO, good to see other Kid!Simon fics popping up :)

It is seven months before the events of Iron Lung.
You are a C.O.I convict, serving two years' penance for a petty crime. After an outbreak in your already over-cramped prison, you are forced to relocate to a new holding cell on the ship. The only issue is that this cell is already inhabited.
Your new cellmate is known only as the Convict. A Brother of Eden, and a butcher of men. He is everything you’ve been raised to hate, and you are everything he was raised to despise. However, in such close and heated proximity, you quickly realize that human nature has little concern for factions or sides.
Through a series of events leading up to his final day, the man once known as Simon is forced to explore his traumatic past, his conflicted present, and the future he yearns to be worthy of, as you both navigate a difficult and untenable relationship.
In a dying world, you must hold on to anything. Even if it hurts you.

The footsteps stop. A moment of silence, and then—“Why isn’t he out yet?”
OR
Simon gets the data. True her word, Ava pulls him out. It’s not necessarily over after that.
