The "Like Non Other" series by aspeninthesunlight is a novel-length Harry Potter fanfic in which Severus Snape adopts both Harry (after his muggle relatives are killed by Voldemort) and Draco (when he has an abrupt change of mind about becoming a death-eater, like his father). Severus slowly huilds them into a real family, complete with brotherly squabbles, Draco's impulse to poison death-eater aspiring Slytherins, Harry's inept attempts to act like a "son" (something he's had no experience in) and the attempts of Draco's father to a) bring Draco back into the death-eater fold, and b) put a kill-order on his son. You learn more about Severus' father and how he became a death-eater. It's a heart-warming story and is a good, long read.

The "Kin" series is a slow burn, novel-length fanfic where Angel basically adopts Xander, Spike treats Xander like a little brother, both Spike and Xander weather the reappearance of Angelus (just!), Xander grows up, and Spike finally convinces both of them to get together. It takes you through Xander's growing up (and away from his original dysfunctional family), with all the problems inherent with doing so in an alcoholic family on a hellmouth. Lots of humor and ups-and-downs in the process. A very original, beautifully plotted, heart-warming fanfic.
