Summary
The first time I met Dean Winchester was at the end of my junior year. I was the only one left in after-school detention when the door flew open and he set his sights on me. The teacher jumped to her feet, demanding to know what he thought he was doing as he crossed the room. He leaned forward, his hands splayed on my desk. I sat up straighter, trying to lean away from him.
“The boy you helped yesterday was my baby brother.” He looked directly into my eyes. “Thank you.” His lips quirked up at the edges as he pushed off my desk and left. Mrs. Martin looked at me, huffed at his audacity. The previous day, I had stepped up to Brad after he tripped a younger boy. It ended with me breaking three of his fingers. I kept the encounter with Dean to myself. I didn’t tell a soul when I was questioned about Brad’s slashed tires or when my favorite soda started appearing on my lunch table every day, until the Winchesters disappeared. -
