    “I love you.” He whispers, as Jiang Cheng hands him another seed, peeled with love.

    Jiang Cheng looks up at him, an eyebrow raised, “Hm?”

    “I love you.” Jiang Ling repeats, and Jiang Cheng looks away awkwardly, continuing to peel seeds.

    He coughs, “Oh. Um, I love you, too, A-Ling.” His answer is unpracticed but genuine, and Jiang Ling lets it warm him, even the stumbling nature of it. His jiujiu has never been good with explicit expressions of affection. Never been good with words in general, really.

    Jiang Cheng hands him another lotus seed, not looking at him as he peels the next one.

    It’s an impulse, a foolish one, but Jiang Ling can’t help it this time, can’t keep his love in any longer, and he reaches forward to still Jiang Cheng’s hands with a light touch.

    “No, Jiujiu.” He waits for the eye contact again, the confusion, before enunciating clearly, stressing it, “I love you.”

    Jiang Ling knows now that he was always meant to be by Jiang Cheng's side. He's never once regretted not returning to the Jin sect. He won't regret it, ever, whether or not Jiang Cheng loves him the same way.
