Summary
Eddie has never flipped his phone over so fast. Chris looks up, eyebrows raised.
“Did Buck send you another snake picture?” he asks.
He can't say no, because Buck… Buck did. But not of a rattlesnake mid-strike this time. He sent an entirely different sort of snake. He nods, his throat too dry to speak.
Buck sends Eddie a nude. Eddie can't stop thinking about it.

Summary
It’s almost like — like Buck’s holding a possible thing in his hands, fragile and fledgling, born too early. It’s not the first time he’s felt this way, with Eddie. It’s happened before, mostly in kitchens.
“Did that guy tell you the name of the suite he put us in?”
The corner of Eddie’s mouth lifts. There, Buck supposes, is his answer.
“Yeah. Honeymooners, huh? Should we tell him about our disaster of a trip?”
His stomach lurches. God. Eddie’s taking this in stride; Buck should be thankful for it. Instead, he’s afraid he’ll be sick all over their shoes.
or: a pining buck has to navigate the Emotional Saw Trap that is the road trip back from new mexico. eddie, quite literally, comes along for the ride.

Summary
Past the worst of the detoxing, Buck sees Eddie cooking breakfast for him one morning and realises he's in love, and tells him as such. Eddie is determined to have things not change between them. So why is it so weird, suddenly?
*******
“But you’re not in love with me, right?” Buck says. Not because he’s not sure. But because he needs Eddie to say it.
“Buck, I’m…you know I’m straight,” he replies, which is sort of a roundabout answer. But Buck wishes he’d said a more definitive no.
He looks at Eddie’s uncomfortable expression and regrets opening his mouth at all. “I know. I’m sorry I made it weird. I just - I couldn’t bear you not knowing. Because sometimes I think you think you’re not worthy of it, and you needed to know you are.”

Summary
Eddie huffs. It’s respectable and masculine, probably. “You know I’m not interested in—”
“Yes, Eddie, I know,” Buck drolls. “You’re off the horse. The meat market is closed. Your dick is on Do Not Disturb. I just think the pot shouldn’t be calling the kettle out,” he gestures between them with an emphatic finger, “for bad dates. Not when the pot is, ostensibly, a born-again virgin.”
“I’m not a born-again virgin,” Eddie grumbles. “Don’t start this again.”
“I’m not starting anything,” Buck lies. “I’m watching the movie.” Another lie. Then he flops unceremoniously back down, head strewn across Eddie’s clenched thighs.
Or: Buck’s mouth moves faster than Eddie’s brain.

Summary
There’s something about the way that whole thing went down at the bar—the way Buck looked at Eddie when that woman got their attention.
Eddie wasn’t interested; he was more than happy to make it to last call with Buck and stumble back into the hotel together, maybe have another drink in one of their rooms before calling it a night, but the way Buck looked at him… Eddie knew Buck wanted Eddie to throw his hat in the ring.
First dibs sounds awful, but it's sort of true. He’s been acutely invested in Eddie’s sex life lately, but that look.
Buck wide-eyed as he gauged Eddie’s reaction, like if Eddie gave him eyes that said No, not me but not you either, that would have been it. They’d reject her together. Continue as they were.
But Eddie gave him a different look, the one that said Go for it, and then Buck did.
As if he wanted Eddie’s permission.
Eddie has an eye-opening moment at the bar in Nashville.
