Last summer, Penelope’s family was cast out of upper class society after her cousin disappeared into the night with half the town’s money. Coupled with an explosive fallout with Eloise, Pen is sure she’s doomed to rot away in a dilapidating manor. Her luck turns around when Colin returns from his latest jaunt abroad. He makes Pen an offer: pose as his companion for the summer and he’ll help restore her family’s reputation, all while paying her way for dinners, dances, dresses and more. It’s harmless fun for the summer, free from expectations and attachments. But when their transactional relationship starts to skirt something more, her secrets and his skeletons threaten to tear the two apart for good.

“Good day, Miss Penelope.” Colin smiled, familiar laughter and devilry dancing on his handsome face. She watched in mute outrage as he tipped his hat to her and strolled out her front door.
After his careless words ruined Penelope's prospects on the marriage mart, Colin is determined to do everything he can to restore her reputation and to find her a good match, even if it means pretending to court his best friend.
However, outside forces with a grudge against the Bridgertons inadvertently transforms a wallflower into the most coveted prize of the London Season of 1815.

Xie Lian swallows.
Feng Xin dips his head and presses a chaste kiss to his chin then murmurs, “Ignore him; I always do. But, Your Highness, if you’d like, we can… continue?”
Xie Lian had been so lost in these new touches that he’d nearly forgotten there was more to this event. He sucks in a sharp breath and glances up at Feng Xin. His eyes are warm and dark, but the thirst is undeniable. If he were to turn around, he’s certain it would be easy enough to spot in Mu Qing as well. Certainly, it’s also present in him—in the very pit of his stomach, slowly unfurling its fingers to squeeze at his lungs.
“Yes. I want it,” he whimpers.
