What had intended to be a quick one-over before he headed to work was turning into a staring competition with his own reflection. He'd lived in a baggy sweatsuit most of his days here, and it had certainly been doing a good job of making him feel like he hadn't gained a substantial amount of weight over the past few months.

He recalled a time when he’d made the mistake of drinking three BOSS coffees back to back, up late on a job. That had been bad. This was worse.
Hurrying to get out of the street, Kiryu leaned hard against a flashing sign, some big bright display advertising a local DVD shop.
He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, but even as he stood there, he felt increasingly anxious. Panic crawled up his spine, his heartbeat thundering in his ears. He contemplated what he should do. Call an ambulance?
No. He knew exactly who to call.
The phone rang once before the voice at the other end of the line took Kiryu from terrified to angry.
“Yo! Kiryu-chan!”
