Summary
When he was 26, Buck had his first genuinely transformative relationship. She was smart, kind and more mature than him. She looked at him and it made him feel like maybe he mattered.
When she told him she needed to go find herself, he promised to wait.He waited for months, living like a ghost in her abandoned home, before finally walking away, humiliated and abandoned, finally realising the love he'd felt had been one-sided.
All of this to say, Evan Buckley had never been good at knowing when to let go of things.
So when Eddie Diaz told him on a chilly Friday afternoon that he had put his house on the market and started packing, Buck told himself that this time, he wasn't going to cling to someone trying to leave him behind. This time, Buck would understand what rejection looked like, and he would let someone he loved walk away with dignity.

Summary
The Frontier is a good truck. He knows that. Reliable, practical, decent on gas for its size — Buck had done research before he bought it, had shown Eddie a spreadsheet, an actual spreadsheet, color-coded, and Eddie had looked at it and then looked at Buck and thought something very specific that he hadn’t been ready to name yet either. That was before. This is after. The point is; the truck is good.
But it’s not Buck.

Summary
“What if they never get over it? You said your sister came out and they didn’t talk to her for three years, and the only reason they went back to it was because she was in a car accident!”
Eddie shrugs. “Okay so we give it a year and I reverse into a hydrant.”
This finally makes Buck stop and turn to him. Good, progress. “This isn’t a joke, Eddie,” he says seriously.
Or: After a horrifying dinner with Eddie's parents, Buck loses the fight to the guilt of not being enough for Eddie. Temporarily.
