Summary
The sallowness of his skin against Chuuya’s own skin, stained gray with makeup washed out under water. The jolty, shivering movement of his throat against Chuuya’s shoulder. The deep, heavy breaths Dazai is taking to stay awake. Chuuya can almost hear him counting down the seconds in his head- he wishes he’d stop. All these small things he takes in before this bubble vanishes, before they step out and deal with what’s waiting for them outside.
Chuuya comes to Dazai's rescue again. He thinks he always might.

Summary
For the record, Dazai should not be responsible for anyone’s mental state considering his own personal history, but Chuuya’s going through a rough time. Old habits die hard, and taking care of one another sits as the very foundation of double-black.
Besides the hair braiding, helping Chuuya with his breakdown involves getting a lot more wet than Dazai anticipated. It’s not a particularly thrilling development.

Shockingly, this is actually the better of the two interactions Chuuya has had with Dazai.

The two things Dazai hates most in life are pain and losing.
And this is what losing looks like: a dance with Death, a sweet embrace, a gentle caress, and then Death leaves. It looks like one eye opening to find life once again crashing in; a promise of breath, not of rest.
And this is what losing feels like: biting metal and bubbling, boiling blood. Something manic rising from the chest into the throat, escaping lips like a high pitched bark. It feels like slicing skin to slivers but still not ever feeling like anything was pieced together in the first place. Summary
When he slows down to observe the campus around them, Dazai stalls. When Chuuya thinks he has a coherent thought to voice, Dazai hums under his breath and Chuuya's mind goes blank. When Chuuya turns in a slow circle to take in the trees and buildings around him, Dazai hovers like he expects Chuuya to fall. One time, Chuuya catches Dazai looking at him with a small smile. Softer around the edges than four years ago.
"What are you looking at?"
Pink tickles Dazai's cheeks and he looks away.OR; Chuuya and Dazai met at 12, separated at 18, and found each other again at 22.
