Summary
“It don't line up the exact same, but my mama told me stories.” Fiddleford caged himself with his arms, looking away. “About Blue Ridge travellers ran off by ghostly black dogs with big red eyes. In some stories, the dog's a protector. But in others, it's an omen.”
A tale Ford had dismissed as a child, convinced that the varied and vague reports indicated this particular oddity was only fictional. Perhaps his child self had been hasty. He tilted his head. “An omen of?”
Fiddleford uncurled himself and looked Ford in the eye. “Death.”
(Ford Pines is intrigued by a new anomaly.
Stan Pines, as the unwitting new anomaly, is having a bad time.)

Summary
"Ford was aromantic. Stan couldn't care less about what his brother liked or did, long as he knew Stan didn't think any less of him for it. (And he knew. They had a talk about it. Several.)
Hell, he was kinda jealous of Ford's innate ability to ignore those relationships entirely. Unlike Stan, whose longing was a collapsed star, trying its damnedest to suck him in past the event horizon.
Stan wasn't like Ford. Stan had tried."
(Stanley Pines is aromantic. His string of failed relationships doesn't clue him into this fact until his aromantic brother connects the dots for him.)

Summary
"Mabel had helped Dipper, over time, to manage his dysphoria- sensory distractions, safe outfits, impromptu haircuts in the bathroom at 1AM when the curls brushing the back of his neck suddenly drove him to despair. Hormones and surgery were always going to be in Dipper’s future, and while Mabel resolved long ago to fight anyone who got in the way of what aer brother needed, it wasn’t something ae personally understood.
Or so ae thought."
(Mabel and Dipper are 17. Dipper has finally started testosterone, and it's making Mabel realize that ae wants that too - but aer parents wouldn't like it. A call with Grunkle Stan helps.)

Summary
"Stripped raw of the aliases, the suit and tie, the lies, the mystery, what will Alex see? Stanley hefts up a bag by the strap and runs a self-conscious hand through their shoulder-length grey curls. They look over to Ford, who meets their eyes with his own barely-concealed panic. He smiles, though, and simply nods to Stan.
Time for the both of them to put their wishful thinking to the test."
(Stanley and Stanford visit the kids and their parents in Piedmont, and end up dealing with the fallout of last summer. Demons and monsters are a lot for two average adults from Piedmont to grasp, but the gender stuff doesn't help either.)

Summary
“Stanley?” He was so annoyed at the expectation that he would have a partner that he never stopped to think about if, on the other hand, Stan wanted that life for themself. That someday they wouldn't want to be on a boat with their brother anymore. “Do you want to settle down?”
(Ford has a small crisis about being aromantic and being a burden. Stan makes sure that doesn't take root.)

Summary
The look Ford gave them was almost grave. "No matter what you want to do, I’ll be behind you, Stanley. Nothing you can do in the pursuit of happiness is going to be strange to me. Because I value you. Not what I think you are.”
(A small series of scenes of how others react to a nonbinary Stanley Pines; takes place after the events of Free.)

“That song we performed… it was so on-the-fly, and cool, and-and we both know it really came from our - uh - Steg’s heart. Hearts?” He wrinkles his nose at that and keeps going. “But did you, um, did you feel any guilt during all that?”
It’s then that he asks Steven the same thing, even though he knows the answer. “Well. Did you?”
[Steven and Greg have an important talk, even though it's a couple years late.]

“Ahhh, I’m so excited to be here again!” Strawberry practically jumped up and down, ever the optimist. Or maybe she was just determined to have a good experience. “I missed this weird sand! Did you miss this sand?”
“Yeah, it’s really chill, isn’t it?” At Quartz’s side, another Rose Quartz ran a hand through her almost-white hair and scrunched her bare toes around the granular material.
Quartz tossed one of her abundant curls over her shoulder to get it to stop tickling her face. Something seemed different about the beach house off in the distance, though she couldn’t pinpoint it. The blue sky was still the same, though, and she smiled privately at it.

"Shy" Rose Quartz has some experiences on Earth and realizes that she needs a change.

Summary
There weren’t many times when Stanley Pines felt comfortable.
Those times were far outweighed by memories of a square peg in a round hole, of Stanley the bad criminal, Stanley the bad son, Stanley the bad brother. Even in these roles he never seemed to measure up. Too reckless to avoid the law’s reach, too soft to be a son, too self-centered and stubborn to be any sort of brother.
(Stanley Pines is not a man. It takes a while for them to figure that out.)

“We could start with one at a time? One of the less, uh, similar-looking Rose Quartz, to see if you’re up for it?” Steven had to resist putting indents where his hands curled over the edge of the van. He could do this without his dad, but…
Greg mulled it over, watching the bluish shadows from the sunset stretch out to meet the van. “Ah, what the hell,” he finally shrugged. “I’ll do it for you, Stu-ball. And it might even be fun!”
[Steven decides he wants to know the three Rose Quartzes better, and he brings his dad along for the ride.]

Summary
"Ford wasn’t mad. It was ultimately up to Stanley whether or not he got a haircut. No, that wasn’t the problem. He was just starting to get frustrated with the fact that Stan was clearly avoiding this for a reason without just talking to him about it. He obviously felt the need to make excuses and leave Ford in the dark.
Weren’t they past this shit?"
(Stan's hair is getting long while they're at sea, but he avoids getting it cut without telling Ford why.)
