    Summary

It was part of the game for Charles to grin and start driving before Edwin had buckled his seatbelt, just to make him squeak. Just like it was part of the game for Edwin to groan and say, “Oh God, please, Charles, please don’t,” as they approached a set of traffic lights that were just about to turn amber.

Charles gets his first car and discovers that his new favourite thing is to find the many and varied ways to make Edwin lose his cool in the passenger seat.

    Summary

“It’s not a date,” Charles says easily, hands raised. “It’s just a bloke treating his mate to a meal as thanks for shagging his brains out.”

    Edwin squints at him suspiciously.

Charles blinks his ridiculous, over-large eyes innocently. His stomach chooses the moment to growl loudly.

    Charles grins sheepishly.

    Edwin sighs.

"I mean it like– I love the way you move. That night, I thought–it's like looking at that piece of me Dad beat to death, and I cut out and drowned, and–he's dancing. He’s dancing."

Utterly exquisite. The writing is poetry.

    Summary

You can't blame Charles for his brain turning to mush— really, you can't. It's not his fault.

If anything, it's Edwin's. Edwin, who is currently stood at case board, hands clasped behind his back. Charles can't focus on much of anything other than his outfit, though.

It's nothing too different from his usual clothes. He dawns a light blue sweater, the collar of his stark white shirt peeking out. His knickerbockers are a light brown with matching brown socks up to his calves. Edwin is wearing his usual boots, and his hair seems all prim and proper like usual but Charles can't focus on that.

All he can focus on is the outfit.

This would be insignificant to Charles, if it were anyone but Edwin. Hell, Crystal and Niko changed their clothes every day and he didn't go around ogling them. He'd get a proper smack upside the head if he did that, but that's besides the point.

It's because this is Edwin. Edwin, who doesn't like change. Edwin, who had only ever changed his look because of—

    No.

    No, wait.

Not because of Monty, Charles reminds himself.

Edwin hadn't dressed up for Monty, had he?

    Summary

“Good thinking,” murmurs Edwin. “Perhaps it’s a benevolent sort of poltergeist. I wonder if -”
He’s cut off by a shower of daisies, the large, long-stemmed ones they put out in the shops for early spring.
“Aw.” Charles picks one up between thumb and index finger, turning it in his hand. “That’s pretty. D’you know, whatever’s making this happen, I feel like it honestly means well with us.”
Edwin isn’t listening. When Charles looks at him, he’s paler than normal, his jaw set in that not-at-all-good way.
“Please excuse me,” says Edwin, and walks straight into their mirror.

(A teacup appears in the office, Edwin blushes a significant number of times, and Charles copes normally with being visibly showered in affection.)

    Summary

For a magic-user intent on siphoning pain for power, both Hob Gadling and Edwin Payne represent unique opportunities. United in dire circumstances, a man incapable of dying and a boy long dead forge an unusual friendship--and try to survive the experience.

    ---

“When you died,” Hob said. “How old were you?”
    “Sixteen.”
    “That,” Hob said, “Is awful.”
Edwin shrugged. “Life is, I’m afraid,” he said.
“Can be wonderful, too,” Hob said. “I promise.”
