Susie used to hate silence, and the feeling of impending doom that surrounded her when the room got too quiet.
Her gaze is fixed on one of the stray leaves.
It's not like that with Kris. Their silence doesn't mean danger. Here, Susie doesn't have to shout to protect herself. She doesn't have to be violent. She can just... be.
Susie then casts her eyes to the night sky, and thinks, I'm so lucky to have them.
