He hears it like it's coming through the depths of the ocean. Blurred around the edges. Familiar but soft. His spine's too stiff to turn. His neck aches…everything aches.
"Izzy," they call again, closer. Gentler. "Come to bed, darling."
Bonnet.
He has the urge to say something. Snarl, maybe. Snap back with you're not my captain, Bonnet. But the words feel like gravel in his throat. Dry and grating.
There's another set of footsteps behind him. They are heavier, hard soled boots. Larger. Something he would know in his sleep.
A hand lands on his shoulder—solid, but not heavy.
"Go on, mate," Edward murmurs. "Do as you're told. He is your captain after all."

Izzy’s eye twitches.
“What,” he says, very carefully—because if he doesn’t say it carefully he will absolutely stab someone—“is that.”
Ed doesn’t look up. He’s sitting on the floor in the middle of the chaos, knees tucked up, glitter on his face, laughing with Frenchie and Olu. Tiny green and red ribbons are braided into his beard.
As if on cue, Stede pops up behind him dressed up in a crime against tailoring.
“Oh, Izzy!” Stede beams. “We were just about to come find you. It’s a Christmas tree! Isn't it wonderful!"

Tip-toeing his way into the main room, Olruggio made a quiet, shuffling beeline for the kitchen. The liquor was kept on the highest shelf, away from tiny and curious hands. Good vintages he’s gotten from events, or whatever Qifrey brings home from the market, because as much of a role model Qifrey tried to be, even he was partial to a good wine every now and again.
Setting the jar on the table, Olruggio opened up the cupboard and smirked as he brought down a half-empty bottle of said wine. “Haa... despite everything, I can at least always come back to this,” he sighed to himself as he moved to uncork the bottle.
“At four in the morning?” A voice behind him inquired.

Something cool brushed his face, a breath of fresh air breaking through the sweltering heat. He turned towards it, reaching for the promise of relief it offered—
And opened his eyes to Qifrey's worried face, where he was crouched next to Olruggio's bed, hair a silver halo backed by the soft torchlight streaming through the open doorway. Cool fingers pressed against Olruggio's cheeks. The crease between Qifrey's eyebrows deepened.
"Olly, you're burning up. How long have you had a fever?"
