The sun is fully set behind the horizon, the last gasps of daylight raking across the inky sky. Wade takes in another, longer breath; his lungs seem to expand further than they ever had before, taking in more air, more scents, just more. Wade opens his mouth, and he knows, he knows wolves and wolverines are very different but that doesn't stop the echoing, primal howl from leaving his lips. It doesn't sound like a human mimicking an animal; it sounds like an animal, a predator. Birds shudder from leaves, and rabbits duck further into their burrows.
Something dangerous is out in the woods, after all.

That's what Wade says, every Saturday evening, before he drags Logan out for a (semi) nice dinner at their favorite greasy spoon. After they eat, it's Sister Margarets, because under Buck's ownership, they've both earned the right to drink for free. Buck keeps saying the amount of money they bring in for him in commissions is more than enough to cover what they drink, but Logan suspects it's only just.
