Summary
Ángel was bored. That in and of itself was already dangerous, but it was boredom brought on by summer’s dead heat, and that presented a whole new world of potential troubles. The heat never did anyone any good.
All he wanted was a decent distraction from the sweat and discomfort. His mother recently left town for several days, leaving him with the ability to do as he wanted with the house. Ángel did appreciate that — that meant that there’d be less risk of getting caught, should he desire to bring anyone home. On days like this, he usually would seek out pleasurable company in the evenings, but even that had lost some of its luster over the past year.
The one man he’d like to bring to bed was stubbornly refusing to make himself available.

“When we get to New York,” Ángel said with a small noise of annoyance, “you are never wearing this thing again.”
Ramiro laughed. “Trust me, I hadn’t planned to.”
When Ángel had finally undone the rest he pushed it far enough aside to quickly pull Ramiro’s shirt up to get his hands against his skin. Ramiro, not to be outdone, also had begun to get Ángel out of his clothes as Ángel kissed him deeper then. It seemed like it had been so long since they were able to be together. Of course it had only been a few days and Ramiro had known they shouldn’t be doing this now but nothing could feel like it mattered more. He managed to get him out of his waistcoat and was only able to start with his shirt before Ángel slid a hand into his pants. Ramiro moaned against Ángel’s mouth.
“See,” Ángel teased as his fingers brushed against Ramiro’s clit, “isn’t it better I got you away from everyone else? How scandalized they would be.”

Ángel peered at himself in the mirror as if maybe he were wrong but he knew that if he brought a hand to himself his reflection would do the same. It was strange, it wasn’t like looking at old photos or recalling a slightly warped memory, he was twenty-nine now and he had been twenty-nine then yet he’d never been twenty-nine as he had in the simulation. He wasn’t sure how to reckon that with such a clear image of a version of himself that previously never existed. Although he supposed that that wasn’t quite true anymore.

Ramiro was familiar enough with this game. With Ángel poking and prodding at the edges of things just to see how far he could push. He was never subtle but that was the point, he wanted people to know what he was doing. But sometimes Ramiro wondered if Ángel forgot he wasn’t the only one who was capable of such a thing.
“What happened to not caring what people think?” Ramiro asked without missing a beat.
