Summary
There had been an accident.
Ed and Stede were painting the bedroom again, this time Stede was sure the color they chose was the right one, the one that would tie it all together for sure. And Ed had been good-naturedly ribbing him, as they did, about maybe the lavender being too bright. They had been laughing and Ed had had a point to make, a point he of course had to make by gesturing emphatically with his brush, the brush he had recently dipped in the bucket. And, of course, paint flew everywhere.
“Oh, shit,” Ed had said absently, trying to assess the immediate damage to the floor and their furniture. “Sorry, love, this is a bit of a mess, hope you like some lavender on the bed, oops.” And he laughed, back still turned to Stede. This kind of thing tended to happen when they renovated together, really.
And he didn't notice. He didn't notice that paint had splattered all over Stede's face and shirt. Until he turned and Stede was just standing there covered, not saying anything.

Summary
The first chords to Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance make the club’s floor shake as an anticipatory chill runs across the crowd dutifully pulling out their money from wherever it is stored. Everyone is staring at the stage with the reverence shown to a deity. It's a bit disturbing.
The stage gets covered in smoke way too quickly, which only seems to rile everyone up further. Steve thinks about going to the back, but that’s when a silhouette emerges and the lights come on illuminating Cherry Bomb in all her glory. She's standing at center stage, muscular thighs shining under the lights, electrifying eyes piercing right through Steve’s very soul.
Steve gets it. He gets it immediately.
This is a goddess.

“Do you know why I fell in love with you?” he asks a while later, turning Steve’s attention away from Bob Seger’s voice floating out of the closed front door.
Steve feels his eyebrows reaching his hairline because getting Billy Hargrove to be this open about anything ever, willingly, takes weeks’ worth of work and deflection. Billy likes to keep what's his very close to home. So it can’t be taken away from him, Steve likes to think, when he’s not feeling frustrated about it. If Billy wants him to know this now, he must have his reasons, even when he’s already said so much more than most nights.
“Are you implying it was something other than my dashing looks, silky hair, and amazing ass?” Steve says around a smile, giving Billy an out if he feels like taking it.

Billy is drunk and in love, Steve is very patient, everyone has deep feelings coming out of nowhere. That's marriage, babey!

Summary
"Who the fuck are you?" Billy snarls but nonetheless slows down his breathing. "And it's Billy, don't fucking call me that."
Whoever it is only chuckles, which does the job of irritating Billy further. He might not be sure if he has a body, but he very much fucking knows he hates being condescended to. This guy can choke.
"Well, Billy," says the guy, and now that Billy's vision is coming back, he can identify a veritable mane of brown hair and even bigger brown eyes. "Is that any way to talk to your husband?"

Billy's appendix burst and Steve's his nurse, nonsense ensues.

Summary
After a viral photo outs Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov while they're still busy pretending their years-long situationship is mostly just sex, the fallout gets complicated fast. The world reacts badly. Their teams react worse. Ilya's future in North America starts to look alarmingly fragile, and Shane, who has never met a disaster he didn't try to control into submission, throws himself into fixing what can still be fixed.
Ilya has spent his whole life being wanted for the wrong reasons and discarded for the right ones. Shane has spent his whole life believing that if he is careful enough, good enough, controlled enough, he can keep disaster from reaching the people he loves.
A practical solution emerges, then a house, then rings.
Somehow, by the time they say their vows, both of them are certain they are the only one who means them.

Summary
In 2003, Shane Hollander is assigned a PenPal, and gains a friend. A friend who smokes, calls him boring, and gives him ridiculous nicknames.
Across the world, Ilya Rozanov practices his English with a curious Canadian boy whose name he can't fucking remember.
Or, before they were Canada's Shane Hollander and Russia's Ilya Rozanov, they were Cat and Elijah. Shane has no reason to suspect his childhood PenPal is his hockey rival, and Ilya has never even considered that the man he's falling for is also the boy he already fell in love with through letters and postcards.

Summary
Ilya is sipping a cappuccino and watching Shane do very perverted yoga when he realizes that he doesn’t want to die.
It’s a dumb series of thoughts. He sees Shane bend over, neatly folding himself into a hunchback as his hands flatten by his feet, and Ilya thinks, I bet he’s going to love it when we’re old and grey and he can outrace me with my stupid hip replacement. And then he realizes that not only does he anticipate being old and grey enough to need a hip replacement, but that he actually wants to get there.

Summary
“Luch-Shane,” Ilya says, catching himself only at the last moment before he breaks their no pet names in the workplace rule. “Why don’t you get some air, yes? We can-”
Shane’s anxiety takes a quick backseat to annoyance once more, at being handled like a child instead of a grown man, like he hasn’t been doing this just as long as Ilya, like he needs someone to tell him when to take a break.
Like he deserved to have everything taken away from him because he couldn’t handle it to start with.
“I’m fine,” he says, voice icy.
The step he takes away is too big, farther than he meant to get from Ilya’s side, and the air between them feels both charged and icy.
He isn’t quite bold enough to try and fix it.
(shane is married and on the same team as his husband) (and all it cost him was his whole career and the life he spent years building beforehand) (but it's fine, really) (it's all so very, very fucking fine)
