YAO - DECEASED; Vitals - NONE, EEG READ: BRAIN DEATH
ILYUKHINA - DECEASED; Vitals - NONE, EEG READ: BRAIN DEATH
GRACE - ALIVE; Vitals - WNL (WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS).-
Ten months after launch, Project Hail Mary recieves a status transmission informing them that Yao and Ilyukhina have died in their comas. Eva Stratt isn't ready to talk to medical lead Chananyapak Yimlamai about what that means.

For the first time in what must surely be forever, nearly the entire Pines family will gather under one roof. Filbrick has resigned himself to a weekend of dread, terrible small talk, and general disappointment with the state of his family, as he always has for years.
But in the cold night, he begins to see an figure creeping closer and closer. It says nothing, wants nothing, but sometimes, if he listens very carefully, he thinks he can hear something strange-a whistle.

Upstairs, he encounters his niece and nephew(s?) for the first time, who are very surprised to see a guy come out from behind the vending machine in the gift shop.
Only one person has the explanation for them all, and the government has made sure he won't be able to share it. (for about 12 hours).

Ford is going to go to West Coast Tech. Yes, there was a bump in the road, Stan broke his perpetual motion machine, but he fixed it! No need to worry, everything was alright and no one would know–
Ford doesn’t get in. Stan is kicked out. Homeless and scared, he falls asleep in the Stanleymobile with a thin reassurance that, at the very least, this is the worst of it.
And then he wakes up in his bed again, and Stan has to wonder, maybe that’s not true.

Stan can't help but laugh when Dipper's father calls to warn him Dipper was at that age when he would need The Talk. After all, Stan already gave Dipper that talk last summer, there's no way Dipper wouldn't remember that! Except...he doesn't. In fact, Dipper is positive that talk never happened. They come to the obvious conclusion: Stan's mind is making up memories. They then come to the obvious solution: Panic.
