Summary
"The office of Holy Innocents Boarding School smelled dank like the rotting spine of an antique Bible. Steve Rogers watched the dust glitter and float within the multicolored shards of sunshine cast from the stained glass windows above the large oak doors. His legs were numb beneath him. "Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum…"
The Hail Mary prayer was spoken reverently in Latin but sounded grating and crunchy over the loudspeakers as it was broadcast from the chapel located in the heart of the building. "Amen. You may stand," and with that the speakers emitted the dying sound of static and then silence as the students all sharing the same breath, and enclosed by the thick brick walls of the school, each made the sign of the Cross in tandem."
Steve Rogers gets sent to a Catholic boarding school his senior year of high school. His mother is sick at home and simply wants what she thinks is best for her son. Yet, Steve struggles with the coils of guilt he feels when he knows he cannot be the perfect child even within the hallowed walls of Holy Innocents.
Anthony Stark is Steve's roommate and the priest warns Steve quite strongly of his misdemeanor.
