Din Djarin had been desperate for work, but he told himself he'd just have to get through Ran's job and then he'd have enough credits to keep his ship running and his kid safe for a few weeks longer. But when the New Republic arrives earlier than expected, Din finds himself arrested and imprisoned, and his child taken from him and sent away to a new guardian.
Luke Skywalker has experience being an uncle to his niece and nephew, but not being a caretaker or teacher to the Force-sensitive infant suddenly sent to him so that it can be protected from the nefarious bounty hunter who'd had it. Summary
It's several months after season 2, and politics are shifting rapidly in the New Republic.
“One of the delegation’s sticking points in the treaty has been a desire to share risk between the New Republic and Mandalore. They don’t want to sign without an assurance. Apparently it’s traditional to do this... somewhat literally. I don’t get the sense that it’s universally desired, but,” she shrugs a little, “we’re all floundering here. Rebuilding a republic out of a dictatorship isn’t easy.”
“I’m not getting the problem here, Leia. So they want it all in writing?”
She lays it out for him, and Luke can’t say he didn’t ask for it. “They want someone from the New Republic to become the new Mand’alor’s consort. Essentially, they want a hostage.”Luke wants the New Republic to back and fund his plans for the new Jedi Order, Bo-Katan wants Mandalore to rise to its previous glory, Leia wants a system of governance that is functional, and Din wants a nap.
