Summary
Shen Yuan’s smugness lasted up until Shen Qingqiu whisked him off to the Bamboo House, where Shen Yuan was meant to brew and serve his shizun his first pot of tea as official head disciple. Shen Qingqiu didn’t dump it on his head, thankfully, but he did give Shen Yuan a rather unnerving warning:
“If you have the nerve to present qianyuan in the future, this master will make sure you regret it for the rest of your life.”
Yikes! What the hell was someone supposed to say to that? Got it, I’ll make sure to control this completely uncontrollable fact of nature? Talk about unfair!
Shen Yuan transmigrates into a cannon-fodder NPC in an omegaverse version of PIDW. He tries his best to make the most of it—with a few stumbling blocks along the way.
Look, he doesn’t need to know all the ins and outs of omegaverse customs, right?

His spies.”
Arthur leans back, folding his arms and narrowing his eyes, “That’s true, Merlin. I’ve been expecting whomever my father’s last spymaster was to come to me for days now. Do you know who it is?”
Don’t fidget. Don’t shift your weight. Goddess take you, Merlin, stand still. He clears his throat, “It was Gaius for a long time.”
The young king relaxes an imperceptible amount, and nods, “He’d have access to everyone, from villager to noble, and friendly relationships with most. Who is it now?”
Merlin stares at him, then spreads his palms helplessly, “Me.”
Merlin is Camelot’s spymaster and must reveal himself as such to Arthur when he becomes king.

Summary

It was a cold awakening, years of baseless faith dashed against the fraying tapestry that destiny had made Merlin sew into his own skin, but an awakening nonetheless.
Merlin is shaken out of his obsession with destiny and his blind faith in Arthur. Arthur just wishes he knew how to get his closest friend back.

That was what happened in fairytales and a multitude of unpleasant events usually occurred between falling in love and the ending of the tale. Besides, Merlin was there to see the world, not the inside of other people’s mouths.
Escaping from the tower they've lived in their entire life, Merlin has a chance encounter with a stranger in the forest that uncovers a path they'd always been told would end in a sheer drop. In tentatively following it, they begin to realise that there is more to survival than fear and that, to truly live, sometimes you have to take a few risks. And pull a few legs along the way.
