Summary
Johnny gets the nerve to sit and stand on shaking legs. Pony’s legs dangle from the side of the fountain, unmoving and still, his converse just brushing the concrete. There is coldness that envelops Johnny’s heart and soul, and he feels his eyes go wide and white.
“What did you do to him?” Johnny asks in a tough, but shaking voice. “What did you do?”
Bob looks at him. He looks at the other Socs. He looks back at Johnny. “He had it coming.”
Johnny feels sick and cold inside. “No, no, you-- he’s fourteen. He’s fourteen!”
The other Socs don’t even stay long enough to hear Bob’s commands do Johnny in, too. They just tear Bob away with blank, pale faces. Bob laughs in a sick, twisted way. Johnny vomits up popcorn and Pepsi and forces his legs to move forward.~

Summary
“Come on, let's get in the car,” Darry says, pulling away slightly. “Can you walk?”
“Yes,” says Pony.
“Okay, can you start walking?”
“No.”
Darry sighs, almost like he wants to laugh. “Right. Okay. Let me put my shoes on, and then I'll--”
His stomach lurches, then drops. “Darry?”
“Yeah?”
“I think I'm gonna--”
Before he can finish the sentence, his legs give way underneath him and he collapses to the ground. He hears his own body thud ungracefully to the ground, followed closely by Darry swearing under his breath, then calling for Soda. His heart starts pounding against his chest, beating furiously. The last thing he sees is Darry's eyes staring worriedly down at him, wide open, filled with fear, trying to keep him up right, before everything fades completely.

or the one where curly shepard picks a fight that leads to another concussion for ponyboy. pony wonders if he's changed. curly tries his best to be a good friend (he's still learning). darry and soda wonder how many brain injuries is too many. -

"And then, he looked up from where the Boss lay and saw Steve Randle standing over him, hot and sweaty. He clutched his side, shirt staining red. Then Steve's head snapped over to him, and Ponyboy didn't know if he had ever seen Steve so mad before.
"'You ,' he spat venomously. His finger jutted out. "Where the hell’ve you been?!"
Ponyboy's mouth dropped open. He pushed himself up on his good arm. 'You can't be serious! I just saved your life! A thank you would be nice!'
'You don't get it!' Steve stepped forward so that he was towering over him. Ponyboy did his best to seem as defiant as possible, meeting his wild gaze. "Three months, Ponyboy. You have been gone three months, and you, what, show up now? Glory, you always have shitty timing, ya know that? Coulda returned at any time, and you chose tonight of all things.'"

It takes Ponyboy Curtis two days to run away.
It takes three months for him to come back to Tulsa.
It takes one night for him to decide to stay.
