"Ilya, honey?” Yuna sounded calm, composed, but there was a crack in her voice. A crack that he had never heard in it before. It chilled the blood in his veins, froze him to the spot. “Are you home?”
"Da. Why?” His free hand was tapping against the kitchen counter. 1,2,3 - repeat.
"Shane was in a car accident.”
"My Shane?” Ilya’s brain was spinning without grip, like tires during heavy rain. It did not make sense, in his thoughts–this was not real. She was lying. “No, he is a careful driver. He would not. I joke all the time. Even a grandma will take him over.”
The silence on the other end of the line thickened. It felt like it was eating him alive.
Late at night, after Shane left Ilya during the Christmas fight, Shane gets into a car accident.
While the world keeps turning and Ilya deals with the uncertainty of grief and guilt, Shane meets the one person Ilya no longer has: Irina.

Summary
If Shane was honest, he had not seen much of the movie at all. He kept getting distracted, looking at Ilya instead. It was stupid, really, but lately, he had been noticing the little things.
The way that the freckles on his back seem to make perfect constellations on his shoulders. Shane noticed the reflection of the colors on the screen in the set of his curls. The grin that slipped onto his lips so easily at any of the witty and dumb lines being said by actors who were seriously underpaid for the things they needed to do.
Shane and Ilya have spent the last seventeen years of their lives together, from daycare, all the way to senior year.
With life threatening to pull them in different directions, Shane needs to be brave.

Summary
When an injury benches Shane Hollander, his thoughts spiral and he struggles keeping a grasp on the world around him.
For most of his life, he had thought that something major would need to happen. Life altering, for him to quit hockey. Now, he was not so sure anymore. Hockey had given him a lot, it was true. Hockey had given him Ilya.
Hockey had also taken a lot away. In just the past few weeks and months, he had lost friends, respect and maybe also passion.
Ilya was home here. He saw it, in his eyes. Ilya was tired, but he was home. He enjoyed himself. Even if his body would decide to give up, he would appear as a coach, as staff. He would find his way in.
Shane was not so sure that he wanted that anymore.

“Come on,” Kip muttered to himself as the puck was stolen from the Admirals and then travelled all the way to Benett. As much as Kip knew that Eric was solid – if there was anything that he trusted Scott with, it was the way he thought about his team members – just one goal could make the difference.
Just like that, they turned the game around, back on the offense, and Kip was biting his nails. It didn’t help that Scott had not looked at the stands once, which kind of voided Kip’s entire romantic gesture.
Scott has never had family at an away game. Kip decides it's time to change that.

He almost deleted the voicemail as soon as what he had just done hit him. His heart was beating so fast it made him dizzy, he felt heat creeping up on his face and a rising panic settling under his skin. He needed to sit down. While running his hands through his hair, face down between his legs, he kept going over his words. That was the most honest Shane had allowed himself to be with anyone, let alone Ilya. He was forever grateful for the knowledge that Ilya would never listen to that.
