Summary
Twice a month, Ed will make his way down to the mailbox at the end of his and Stede’s long entrance path, and, twice a month, he’ll collect his family’s letters. For the most part, they are addressed to The Captains, Cap. Stede & Cap. Edward, or to the Teach-Bonnets. It’s always them, together, as a unit.
(A united front, some have called it.)
The point is, it's always them, which is why it strikes Ed as strange when he picks up their letters today, and under the sand-layer of the first envelope he reads, To Edward. Just Ed, please and thanks.

Ed can’t help but grin. “What are you doing?”
“I’m plotting.”
“Just tell me—”
“No, you have to guess! I’m planning something in my head. You have to guess what it is.”
“Holy fuck. Is everything a game all the time with you?”
“Yes.” Stede answers, smiling.

Summary
The snow might be good. For all the intruders who might come find them, at least he’d be able to see where they come from. The birds are mostly gone, but the chickadees are loud enough to give warning. Ed’s rehearsed the fake battle in his mind so many times he can see it as a near memory.
or: the thoughts that karma might catch up with ed and stede at the inn are suddenly too much for ed to bear.

Summary
"I'm from the future," Jay says at last.
That's not possible, is Matt's first thought but he clamps down on it because this is Jay, and Jay is wandering Spadina, and Jay is also here in his room. So. Something impossible is now possible and it may as well be time travel.
"You're a time traveller." Matt giggles. "Holy shit. Holy shit. How did you—? No, never mind that, what am I thinking. Do you have a sports almanac on you? Any winning lotto numbers?"

Summary
Ed is an engineer aboard the Revenge, an interplanetary research vessel on a multi-year mission to study Jupiter's moon Europa. An accident requires that Ed awaken from cryostasis over six months early, and finds his only companion to be Stede, the ship's onboard AI. They develop an unconventional friendship, but is it possible to have more?
This is classic mutual pining with a sci-fi twist, inspired by all of my favorite stories about the nature of personhood.
-----
“You–” Ed was struggling to parse what Stede was saying. “You’re playing your version of this song for me, right now? Like, in real time?”“Yes, Edward, that’s correct,” said Stede softly.
Ed’s brain momentarily seized up. He supposed it made sense that Stede was capable of learning a set of rules to do something like arrange and play a piece of music. There was something unnerving about this song, though. It felt, well–it felt organic . Reactive. Almost collaborative in a way. Ed was lost in the push and pull of it, until the last notes softly petered out.
“So, what did you think?” asked Stede. It sounded nervous again. Why the hell would someone program an anxiety response into a bot?

Summary
Ed shrugs one shoulder. His eyes wander the party. “Y’know. If you’ve got no one to kiss at midnight…and I’ve got no one to kiss at midnight…we could maybe– well, might as well just, I don’t know, kiss each other?”
(or: Ed and Stede's friendship group all have a New Year's kiss locked in for midnight, except them...)
