“Oh, I was looking for those. They're my tags - every soldier got them,” Ed explains, “has my name, religion, blood type, all that stuff. Used for identifying people who died. Most soldiers who survived carried on wearing them.”
Lorraine traces the pad of her thumb over the letters, “You don’t.”
“I’m not like most soldiers,” Ed smiles.

“Hey,” Ed’s voice, so as not to break the quiet that blankets their home, “Cocoa.”
His bare feet pat against the carpet as he comes to stand by her side, offering her a mug. Once he has a free hand, he lets it rest around her waist to hold her close. The scent of his soap fills her senses, and Lorraine can’t help but close her eyes, letting the familiarity find a home in her heart.
“I love you,” Ed whispers, pressing his lips against her temple. His eyes close, and he holds her close. No more words need to be spoken as they share in their embrace, finding more contentment in their arms than any words that could be said.
Still, when the clock chimes, announcing the midnight hour, Lorraine turns in his arms, forces back the tears that threaten to fall, and whispers, “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, Lorraine,” Ed whispers.

I got a tattoo on Saturday (11th) and the idea has been in my mind since then, so imagine Izzy is me (even though I doubt you know me). Yes, he does fall asleep, I did. Tattoos are surprisingly relaxing to me.
