"You can't keep stalling," Ilya says.
At that, Shane glances up and glares, and the rising bruise on his cheek and one side of his mouth is dark and ugly in the golden light from overhead. "Watch me." He's more pissed with himself than he is with Ilya, having gotten into a fight on the ice that got him sent to the penalty box at a critical moment and led to the Centaurs' defeat, but Shane Hollander is stubborn and has never known when to stop digging.
Ilya blows out a breath at that. "Okay, malysh. Fifteen minutes for you to do what you need, then meet me in the living room." He drags his gaze over Shane, from the mulish jut of his jaw to the unsettled scrunch and flex of his toes against the tile, and nods to himself. "You know what I expect."

Madara waits another few seconds, then snaps,
“Well? Any sign of Tomoe or Kagami?”
“Madara,” Hashirama says reprovingly from where he’s standing by the window, but where does he get off being judgmental? It’s not like his daughter and clanmate are out who-knows-where doing who-knows-what. “He’s doing his best.”
Of course Tobirama is. Doing his best for Kagami, and not for the daughter he’s never once spoken to, even though it is Konoha’s worst-kept secret that Uchiha Tomoe is not fully Uchiha at all.

He’s learned other styles of self-defense to compensate for his weakened bones, excelled in enough courses to make up for the disabilities that tried to keep him from the captain's chair, earned it, and yet if he could be a captain of some freighter right now, he’d prefer that.
