Summary
Failure was imminent; he knew that. It was only by the skin of his teeth that he was able to hide a full-on chemical burn on both hands from his brothers, it was only by the skin of his teeth that he still managed to wake up in the morning to work on mindless projects. He was going to break. He was going to shatter soon if he wasn't careful.
But he carried on regardless. Not because he was an idiot, but because he wanted to help.
And if helping meant discarding any semblance of self-preservation that remained within him, then so be it.

Summary
The Battle Nexus is - at its very least - terrifying, but it's never empty.
Every clang of an axe against a shield is greeted with furious and excited yells; every clatter of a sword hitting the sand erupts chants of "finish it!" among the spectators. Life in the Nexus is not a game. Rather, it's ending another's life that's the game, and living is merely an award.
The only constant is the grim reminder that to win is to kill and your next battle may very well be your last.

Giorno’s eyes are shut tightly, but Abbacchio’s glare still sears the side of his face. “You could at least spare me the insult of acting like I’m stupid, kid. I can read between the lines.”
Giorno tries not to clench his hands. “What lines.”
A breeze whistles over the cracked-open window. The water pipes creak loudly within the walls.
“Giorno,” says Abbacchio. “Just tell me. It’s okay.”
After becoming injured in a fight with a stand user, Giorno comes to a deeper understanding of his relationship with the team.

"It's not!" Johnny protests, twisting the hare over the fire. "I got no idea where it comes from, but I swear it's a real word. Barbecue is stuff you cook slow, with smoke. It's great. When this is over I'm gonna make you come back to Kentucky with me so you can have real barbecue." He pauses, then adds, "And mint juleps. I bet you'd like mint juleps."
"Johnny, you keep saying words at me and I'm almost entirely certain they're fake," Gyro complains, starting to prepare the other hare. "What in the hell is a julep?"
