Summary
Shane is made to be worshiped; he's a luxury. He’s perfect. A bona fide godsend. He shouldn’t have to deal with this. He shouldn’t have to lose sleep putting the pieces of him back together in the middle of the night. He deserves better than him; of course, he does. He deserves the world.
Ilya needs to make it worth it. He needs to remind him what Shane was so captivated by in the early phase of their relationship. Exhaustion had never hit Ilya quite like this before. He always expected a mid-season slump; anyone would after months of grueling physical activity. But these last few years in Ottawa—they've drained Ilya.
Sure, they've started winning more. They aren't exactly scrapping the bottom of the barrel anymore, but playoff hopes were still a ways away. And, for Stanley Cup champion Ilya Rozanov who ate, slept, and breathed winning, it sort of felt like his soul was being slowly sucked out of his body.
It was all worth it to be closer to Shane. Of course it was. It was so, so worth it to see him and hold him more than four times during the season and in stolen moments during the summer that Ilya clung to like a lifeline. He would do it all over again and again and again, just to see Shane—his Shane—smile.
But he wishes it wasn't so fucking exhausting.
