Later, Harry would wonder if Malfoy regretted that first, surprised mutter after three days of hard-pointed silence. Later, Harry would wonder about his own lack of regret over looking up when he heard Malfoy’s voice. But that would come after everything had already happened, the way events always seemed to, when even a Time-Turner couldn’t change things. The shape of a path, as Harry knew very well by then, once walked, was a lot like a paper crane — unfolded and pressed flat, you could try to fashion it into something different, but the original creases would always remain.

“Make me,” Steve Harrington says, finally turning to look at him, his eyes dark and blank. He’s too drunk to hold a sneer. He finally gets a good look at Billy, though, and Billy sees it when it happens, when Steve recognizes him. Something in his expression crumples, a little, and then he’s on his feet.
Steve Harrington, Billy learns, as his world stays frozen, as the thunder booms, as he hears Rebecca’s worried little shriek from the other end of the bar, still can’t throw a very good punch.

'You’ve lost your shucking mind,' Thomas thinks. He barely keeps those words behind his teeth, but they’re the truth. They must be the truth. They left the Glade, he and Gally watched together as Denver burned, they climbed aboard the Berg and made it to Safe Haven. They made it to Safe Haven.
Didn’t they?
“How do you know?” Thomas asks. He expects a crazy man’s answer, like 'where else would we be?' Like 'can’t you tell?' Like 'I belong to the maze — we all do.'
That’s not what Thomas gets though. Gally only says:
“You’ll know soon enough.”
___Somehow, Thomas and Gally are back in the Glade.
This time, not even Thomas can see a way out.
