“Hey, did you order something? You just got a huge box dropped off,” Shane asked.
Ilya smiled. “Ah, it’s here?” he asked.
“Yeah, something really light. In a huge box,” Shane answered, “What is it?”
Ilya called Anya to come and he walked past Shane into the house. Shane trailed after him, so curious, and nervous, about what was in that box.
Ilya picked up the box and put it on the counter. He opened the drawer where they kept what Shane called the ‘multipurpose scissors’ and cut the tape on the top of the box. He opened the flaps of the box and stopped.
“You can not be mad,” Ilya said to him.

Summary
When Shane and Ilya got married, they debated for ages about changing their last names. Would they both hyphenate? If they did, whose name would go first? Should they combine their last names? Was it better to wait until they retired?
And then, once they’d finally agreed, Shane suggested to Ilya that he didn’t have to keep his middle name if he didn’t want to. Ilya had always hated having Grigoryevich, a version of his father’s name, as his middle name. He felt weighed down by it every time he saw it on his licence, his passport, official paperwork. He thought long and hard about what it would mean to rid himself of it, for his name to be as free as he finally felt.
Ilya liked that idea very much, he decided. He didn’t have a choice in his own name before, but this time he got to choose. So maybe, maybe, he could choose a new middle name too. Something that made him smile each time he looked at it, something worth living up to.
It’s the first Father’s Day since Shane and Ilya’s wedding, and Ilya’s new driver’s licence just arrived in the mail…

Summary
Shane Hollander loves playing for the Ottawa Centaurs. Leaving Montreal, as painful as it had been, really has been one of the best decisions he’s ever made.
He gets to play with his husband. He’s supported at all levels, from upper management down to the most casual of fans, and his teammates are genuinely kind and lovely people who care about him and his life and are invested in his well-being.
Considering where he came from, Shane thinks it’s wonderful to work with such caring players who want what’s best for him and notice things about his life. It's really, really great.
Until it isn’t, of course.
“Hollander, what the fuck is that on your face?” Zane Boodram asks in the locker room while they’re changing for game five of the first round of playoffs.
