Summary
Hermione Granger is heartbroken. She was supposed to meet Draco Malfoy at this fancy Italian place he had made reservations at for their first date, but the man never showed up.
Back home in her pyjamas, she cries into her ice cream when there is a ring at the door. Enter a very scuffed, bloody, wild eyed Draco Malfoy holding up a bouquet of flowers like a life line.
"What the fuck happened to you?" She asks, but never in a million years is she ready for his answer.
And neither are you.
This is a small crack fic based on artwork by omniluci_estumbra for her 30k celebration. Congratulations, Jamie!

Summary
Summer 1998. Hermione Granger is holding on but only just, getting through the days as best she can until the first of September when she returns to Hogwarts. The rest of her life seems out of her control, but once she's back at school, in her element, everything will be fine. It has to be. She's counting on it.
Then one day she gets a letter from Draco Malfoy, sent from Azkaban, and all at once she doesn't feel so alone anymore. On paper, to him, she can truly be herself--with everything that entails, however ugly. For Draco, the letters are a place to vent. Anger, frustration, petulance, guilt, he pours it all out for the eyes of the last person he ever imagined would care. And slowly, together, they begin to heal.

She attempted a deflection via academic nitpick. “Malfoy, I’m trying to sleep, but on the subject, you know you can’t have a species that’s just one person. How would I propagate?”
“Granger.” He rolled to face her as though now she had his full attention. “It sounds like you just asked me to tell you how to fuck yourself.”
