“It’s Arthur, Merlin. It’s me.”
“I have no idea who you are.”Arthur just got into another fight with his father. Something about wanting to help others in some days-away village that his father forbade him from addressing and sent him to his room, where he was to remain until sunrise. Naturally, in true rebellious fashion, Arthur escaped, rounded up his men (Merlin included) for a hunting trip.
Nobody could’ve expected them to be ambushed, nor that Merlin would get hurt. Badly. Waking up with a bad case of memory loss, ensues the self-blaming dread of Camelot’s prince, and a clueless manservant trying to rack his brain around who the hell is Arthur Pendragon.

Summary
Merlin had looked worried the previous day and he had barely eaten anything at dinner. Arthur had tried to get him to open up about what was wrong, but Merlin refused to divulge any information. Once they had been done eating, he had diverted Arthur’s attention with a heated kiss full of promises before retreating to his study. Or so he had said. His husband had a tendency to deal with problems and threats on his own, going out in the dead of night to fight whoever and whatever endangered Arthur’s or the Kingdom’s safety.

"You seemed as if you were hiding something during Father's interrogation," Arthur remarked quietly, fingers gently prodding at a bruise.
Merlin didnt open his mouth, eyes focused on a spot above Arthur's head. "Merlin, did you manage to lie to Father about something?"
Merlin swallowed, the compulsion pushing at him. "Technically, I didn't say a lie," he said carefully and Arthur paused, frowning at him.
"What do you mean technically?" He demanded.
