Lambert didn’t worry himself about soulmate shit.
People seemed to care about that stuff way too much.
He knew Witchers got soulmates, he’d seen it plenty of times at the keep. Spirit animals showing up like shadows out of the snow, trailing behind someone silently, waiting. Sometimes it was beautiful. Sometimes it was terrifying.
But it always felt off to him.
A Witcher wasn’t made to live long. Wasn’t meant to be loved, to be paired, to be kept. They were swords with legs. Killers made to bleed, and then rot in forgotten places.
So of course now he’s got a soulmate named Aiden... and a spirit animal that won’t stop following him around

The steps started up again, unhurried and careful, and then someone was chuckling.
“They sent a Witcher?” A light voice asked, almost musical in tone. “They must really be worried.”
“Yeah, you went after an Omega!” Lambert snapped at the bandit.
“Hey, I only went through her bag,” the voice corrected, coming closer. “…Now what should I do with you?”Or: Lambert gets a little careless on a job, and ends up held captive by the bandit (Jaskier) he was hired to catch.
