Summary
It takes a lot for me to admit that I’m jealous of ART, but I have to admit that its ability to partition itself is something I’ve always wished I was capable of. It’s currently split into three iterations (in addition to its primary self). Partition 1 is handling the monotonous tasks of running life support / gravity onboard, maintaining the wormhole, and navigating us through space on this “cargo run” that’s really just an excuse for some alone time. ART-Prime is currently draped over me in the feed while I’m stretched out across the bed in my quarters, monitoring my system readings and riding my inputs so closely that it can feel every twitch of my organics as we watch our live feed media transmission together. Partition 2 is managing the drones scattered across various vantage points in Gurathin’s quarters, streaming and editing the camera views in real-time. Partition 3 is also in Gurathin’s quarters, controlling the ART-Drone that’s fucking him.

It feels a little embarrassing, but…I hadn’t ever thought about bringing Gurathin on the mission as anything other than a client. And while it had felt strange to think about him being my client again, I also don’t know how I feel about not having him as my client. My only similar frame of reference is when I’ve done duo missions with Three, since it’s not like we consider ourselves each others’ clients (that would be stupid). I’ve never worked like that with a human, instead of a SecUnit…but, if I’m going to try it with anyone, I guess it makes sense for it to be Gurathin. My brilliant augmented human. My partner.

Murderbot and Gurathin have to get all dressed up and infiltrate a corporate gala for absolutely necessary and 100% plot-based reasons (that have nothing to do with the author just thinking that would be fun to write). This work lives in the same world as the first two works in the series (Virus and Touch), but can be read standalone.
